The first of two 2-11 alarm fires in Chicago occurred on December 22, 2018, at 7051 N. Clark Street. I arrived about 40 minutes into the fire, and at that point, the scene was fully under defensive operations. Multiple hand lines and master streams were in action, with crews working hard to contain the blaze.
I captured several photos during my time there, including Engine 59 and Engine 71 pumping water, as well as Engine 102 and Engine 70 actively engaged. Tower Ladder 21 was also on scene and ready to deploy, though I don’t believe it was used for any water flow during this incident.
There were a number of other units present, including Squad 2A and Engine 70, which were clearly working closely together. The fire produced heavy smoke, especially in the alleyways, and the scene looked intense from the outside.
Notably, Deputy Fire Commissioner Tim Sampey was seen on the scene, showing his presence and support for the responding crews. It was clear that this was a serious fire, and the Chicago Fire Department handled it with professionalism and coordination.
