Here's a message from Jeff Rudolph:

    December 29, 2015

Spring Grove, IL – The McHenry County Fire Protection District responded to a fire at 6316 Johnsburg Road. Due to the size of the structure and the absence of hydrants in the area, the incident was escalated from a Box alarm to a third alarm for tenders. Firefighters quickly brought the flames under control, preventing them from spreading into the main residence. Jeff Rudolph

    Excerpts from the Northwest Herald:

No one was injured in a fire that caused over $100,000 in damage to a home in Spring Grove on Sunday afternoon. The Spring Grove Fire Protection District was called to 6316 Johnsburg Road at 2:26 p.m. when firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the roof and windows of an attached tool shed, according to Chief Richard Tobiasz.

Approximately 15 fire departments from Lake and McHenry counties, as well as Wisconsin, assisted in extinguishing the fire, which had spread into the main house—a large converted dairy barn. Crews managed to bring the fire under control within less than an hour.

The property is located in an area without access to fire hydrants, so tankers were sent to a local water tower in Spring Grove to retrieve water. The owner reportedly had been heating cooking oil in the tool shed before returning to the house, possibly falling asleep. A neighbor saw the fire, entered the home, and woke up the owner and his two adult sons.

The first floor and the tool shed sustained significant fire damage, while smoke damage affected the second floor where the bedrooms are located. Despite the destruction, the home is not a total loss and could potentially be rebuilt, according to the chief.
