On the 23rd, Baotou Beiben Heavy-Duty Truck Co., Ltd. held a signing ceremony for localized supporting enterprises in Penglai City. The contracted projects included companies such as Yangzhou Jiexin Automotive Air Conditioning Co., Ltd., Shaoshan Wanxiang Driveshaft, and Chongqing Dajiang Axle. As part of its expansion strategy, this project involves a total investment of 792 million yuan, marking a significant step forward in localizing supply chains and strengthening industrial collaboration.
At 9:48 a.m., the 25,000th heavy-duty chassis produced by Beihang Heavy-Duty Penglai Branch smoothly exited the production line. This milestone not only highlighted Beiben Heavy-Duty Trucks' ability to perform under challenging conditions but also set a new production record, pushing its output growth rate to the top of the industry. Notably, the Penglai branch alone produces and sells around 9,000 heavy trucks annually, contributing significantly to the company's overall performance.
North Benz Heavy Vehicle Co., Ltd. is recognized as one of China’s leading modern heavy-duty vehicle production bases. In late 2006, the company invested 1.2 billion yuan in Penglai to establish the North China Benz Heavy-Duty Penglai Branch. This facility primarily focuses on assembling and manufacturing over 100 types of vehicles, including trucks, dump trucks, semi-trailer tractors, and modified vehicles, further solidifying Penglai's role in the national automotive industry.
Beiben Heavy Duty Truck's decision to invest in Penglai was driven by the city's strong automotive industry foundation and favorable business environment. Over the past few years, Penglai has strategically focused on developing the automobile and parts industry as one of its four key sectors. The city has promoted an industrial development model centered on "strengthening industry leaders, highlighting unique features, and improving the industrial chain." Through targeted policies and investment promotion efforts, it has attracted numerous well-known domestic and international automakers and component manufacturers.
Currently, Penglai is home to more than 20 auto manufacturing projects, including the Beiben Heavy Industry Penglai Branch, FAW (Shandong) Automobile Modification, Shunda Special Vehicle Modification, and Daewoo Korea. The North Mercedes-Benz heavy truck project, which recently settled in Penglai, filled a critical gap in heavy-duty truck production in Yantai. This year, the Penglai project successfully met its target of producing and selling 10,000 units, achieving sales revenue exceeding 4 billion yuan. As a result, Penglai has become one of the three major heavy truck production hubs in Shandong Province.
The establishment of Beiben Heavy Trucks has also spurred the growth of local supporting industries, leading to the expansion of the entire Penglai vehicle sector. It has promoted the serialization of special vehicles, diversification of components, and the formation of a concentrated automotive industry cluster. To further support this development, the city has planned to build the Beiben Heavy Truck Automobile Industry Park, centered around Beiqi Heavy Industry. This initiative has attracted more than 30 supporting companies, including Beichi Wheels, Xinqiao Machinery, Dilian Chemicals, Dianlian Warehouse, and Rongxin Machinery. These companies cover over 200 types of auto parts, such as axles, wheels, transmission shafts, chassis, brakes, and bumpers. To date, 68 companies have signed agreements, with an annual production value reaching 4 billion yuan.
It is estimated that by 2010, the North Benz project will attract 120 auto parts enterprises to settle in Penglai. At that time, more than 95% of the spare parts needed for North Benz heavy trucks will be available locally, further enhancing the region’s self-sufficiency and competitiveness in the automotive industry.
