The "Study on the Determination of Rare and Diffusive Elements by Melt Sample Preparation-LA-HR-ICP-MS" is a project of the youth scientific and technological talents for special projects funded by the national land and resources public welfare industry in 2013. The overall goal is to study the establishment of fusion samples - LA- HR-ICP-MS method for the determination of rare-earth elements such as zirconium, hafnium, tantalum, niobium, and rare earth in geochemical samples has a low detection limit, good reproducibility, and high accuracy.
The project has systematically optimized the measurement conditions and parameters of high resolution plasma mass spectrometry (HR-ICP-MS) and laser denudation (LA), systematically studied the matrix effect of the determination, and determined the correction method of the matrix effect. Innovation has proposed a new method for the quantitative evaluation of fractionation effects, enabling the LA-HR-ICP-MS method to determine the fractional distillation effect of elements.
Based on a comprehensive study to evaluate the effects of fractionation and matrix effects on the determination results, a fusion sample preparation-LA-HR-ICP-MS method was established for the determination of rare-earth elements such as zirconium, hafnium, tantalum, niobium and rare earth in geochemical samples. The analytical method uses a flux to melt a solid sample into a glass slide, which can be directly measured by LA-HR-ICP-MS and can accurately determine 45 elements in the geochemical sample including zirconium, hafnium, tantalum, niobium, and rare earth elements. Accurate determination of some rare and rare elements, rare earth elements, and indissoluble ore samples that are difficult to completely dissolve by the acid-dissolving method provides an alternative analytical method and solution, with detection limits, precision, and accuracy of the method.
