2-Alarm and Box Alarm fire in Bartlett, 2-3-22

    Excerpts from abc7chicago.com:

More than 12 hours after the initial smoke alarms went off, firefighters were still working to bring under control a massive fire that completely destroyed a warehouse at the Brewster Creek Business Park in Bartlett, a western suburb.

The blaze broke out at Access, a secure document storage facility located at 1200 Humbracht Circle. The warehouse was packed with documents stacked from floor to ceiling, which provided plenty of fuel for the flames. According to witnesses, what started as a few burning boxes quickly turned into an all-out inferno.

The incident began around 10 a.m., when officials said the sprinkler system initially managed to contain the fire. However, when a series of steel storage racks collapsed, the situation spiraled out of control, and the warehouse became unsalvageable.

In a statement, Access confirmed that all employees had safely evacuated the building and are currently accounted for. The company is now cooperating with local authorities to investigate the cause of the fire.

This account comes from Larry Shapiro:

I arrived at the scene around 10:30 a.m., when it was classified as a second alarm MABAS box. The Mobile Ventilation Unit (MVU) was used to clear smoke from the warehouse after local companies had already entered the building. I mainly focused on capturing images of the large number of emergency vehicles on site, as crews were beginning to wrap up operations and release most units, except for those from Bartlett. At 3:45 p.m., a Box Alarm was called in due to heavy fire conditions.

Emergency responders worked tirelessly through the night, battling the flames and ensuring the safety of nearby residents. Local businesses were also affected, with some forced to close temporarily due to the smoke and disruption. As the investigation continues, questions remain about the cause of the fire and how such a dangerous situation could develop so rapidly. For now, the focus remains on recovery and support for those impacted by this tragic event.
