CFD Apparatus History – trucks with boosters 1967

    The Chicago Fire Department made a significant investment in aerial ladder trucks equipped with booster tanks and onboard pumps during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Between 1967 and 1973, they acquired a total of 21 such vehicles from various manufacturers, all featuring water storage capabilities. Of these, one was a mid-ship design while the rest were rear-mounted units. These vehicles were manufactured by respected brands like Seagrave, Pirsch, Ward LaFrance (Grove), and American LaFrance. This post marks the beginning of a series that will delve into the evolution of these fire apparatuses within the Chicago Fire Department. In 1967, Chicago welcomed two Seagrave mid-ship aerials. One was a straightforward straight truck, initially assigned to Truck Company 44 before moving to Truck 60. The second, known as Shop #E-166, came equipped with a 60-gallon-per-minute (GPM) pump and carried 200 gallons of water. Initially deployed to Truck 26, it later transferred to Truck 31. Here's an image of that particular Seagrave mid-ship aerial, which was assigned to Truck 31. It featured a 60-GPM pump and held 200 gallons of water. This photo, taken by Jack Connors, captures the vehicle in its original configuration. As part of the department’s operational adjustments, when Truck 31 relocated to the station at 77th and Pulaski, there was no accompanying engine company. To address this gap, a fog pressure unit was temporarily assigned as Truck 31A starting November 17, 1971. Engine 64 joined them at this location on March 12, 1973. Below is an image of the 1966 International CargoStar Darley Fog Pressure Unit that served as Truck 31A. This vehicle was in place until Engine 64 arrived. Another interesting piece of history is the 1967 Seagrave mid-ship aerial that later became Reserve Truck 7. Although it lost its pump over time, it remained part of the fleet for many years. Over the decades, the Chicago Fire Department has continually adapted its equipment to meet evolving needs. These changes reflect not only advancements in technology but also shifts in operational strategies aimed at ensuring the safety and efficiency of firefighting efforts across the city. The story of these aerial ladder trucks highlights the dedication and planning involved in maintaining a robust firefighting infrastructure.     Roll Container

    Roll Container is a device for transporting and storing goods, made of hard metal materials and characterized by foldable and movable features. Roll containers can be used for the transportation of goods because they can easily load and unload goods, and they have an open design. In addition, they usually have foldable characteristics, making them easy to stack and store when not in use, thereby saving space and storage costs. Roll containers can also be used for the storage of goods. They can serve as temporary storage devices to safely store goods in warehouses or logistics centers, and because of their sturdy structure and secure locking system, they can effectively protect goods from damage. In addition, Roll Containers can also be used to classify and organize goods. They are usually equipped with adjustable shelves and partitions, which can separate and organize the height of goods as needed to better organize and manage the goods. This function makes it easier to find and retrieve goods, improving work efficiency. In addition, Roll Container can also be used for displaying goods in supermarkets, retail stores, and exhibition halls.
    In short, Roll Container is a practical equipment for transporting and storing goods. Their foldable and movable characteristics have demonstrated important applications in the transportation, storage, classification, and display of goods. By using Roll Container, the efficiency and security of cargo management can be improved, thereby saving time and costs for enterprises.
