This report comes from Eric Haak:
The McCook Fire Department responded to a fire that broke out early Saturday morning, around 4:00 AM on January 26th, at 5300 Lawndale Avenue. The structure involved was a large 100x100 semi-repair shop, which presented significant challenges for the responding crews. The area had very limited access, and there were only a few hydrants available, making it difficult to get water to the fire quickly. Adding to the challenge, temperatures were hovering around -2 degrees Fahrenheit, creating extremely harsh conditions for firefighters battling the blaze.

Photos from the scene show the intensity of the fire and the efforts of the firefighters who worked under tough conditions. It’s clear that this was a challenging call for the department, especially with the cold weather and limited resources. Local residents were advised to stay away from the area as the fire continued to burn through the early hours of the morning. No injuries have been reported so far, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
