I just came across some new details about the major fire that broke out at Jamaican Gardens (north location) in Libertyville over Memorial Day weekend. This marks the third update I’ve shared on this incident, and I’ve got some compelling visuals to share, including photos from Larry Shapiro and a video.
First off, let me walk you through what happened. The fire erupted suddenly, causing significant damage to the nursery. It was quite an intense scene, as you’ll see from these images. Larry Shapiro managed to capture some powerful shots that really convey the scale of the disaster.
Here’s one of the first photos:

This shows the sheer magnitude of the flames engulfing the property. Larry’s work really highlights the urgency and chaos of the situation.
And here’s another:

As you can see, the fire spread quickly, leaving behind a lot of destruction. Larry’s ability to document this event so vividly is impressive.
For those who want to dive deeper into the visuals, there’s a full gallery featuring more of Larry’s photos [here].
Interestingly, I also found another angle of the incident captured by Tim Olk. You can read his account and see additional images [here].
Now, take a look at this next image:

It gives a different perspective on how widespread the fire became. The intensity of the flames is striking, and it’s clear how much effort went into containing the blaze.
Finally, I wanted to share a short video clip that captures the unfolding events. Unfortunately, I can’t embed the video directly here, but you can view it [here] if you’re interested.
The whole community has been abuzz about this fire, especially given the importance of Jamaican Gardens to the area. If anyone has any firsthand accounts or additional photos they’d like to share, feel free to reach out—I’d love to hear from you.
Let me know your thoughts or any updates you might have. Until then, stay safe and keep an eye out for further developments.
