Xichai launches production competition and strives to achieve "double over half"

Shangchai is currently undergoing on-site audits for the re-evaluation of its ISO/TS16949 and ISO 9001:2000 quality management systems, conducted by TÜV Rheinland.

Due to recent organizational changes within the company, the scope of this certification review has been adjusted to focus on the design and production of automotive diesel engines and natural gas engines. The updated scope now includes new products such as natural gas engines, the 9DF model, and the SC11B engine. This expansion provides a solid foundation for the market launch of these new products and strengthens Shangchai's reputation in the automotive industry. The audit team acknowledged that the company’s quality management system is functioning effectively but identified several areas requiring improvement. These include insufficient project planning, management, and monitoring of key milestones, which need urgent attention. Additionally, the effectiveness of corrective actions taken after the audit is still being evaluated, as some issues continue to recur. The ability to draw meaningful inferences from data and apply lessons learned must also be enhanced. Furthermore, there are gaps in the process planning and execution at branch operations, highlighting the need for more comprehensive system planning across the entire organization.

TÜV Rheinland’s audit report included 7 non-conformities and 22 proposed improvements, covering all departments involved in the audit. This indicates that while the quality management system is on the right track, further efforts are required to strengthen basic management practices. The current level of detail, depth, and solidity in certain areas is not sufficient, and more work is needed to meet the standards effectively.

During the final audit meeting, the auditor emphasized that there are still significant challenges in the operation of Shangchai’s quality management system. Improvements are needed in product development, application, process management, and implementation. Quality planning should be fully integrated into the company’s 2009 strategy. TÜV Rheinland’s recommendations are seen as valuable tools to enhance the control and efficiency of Shangchai’s quality system, supporting long-term growth and competitiveness in the automotive market.
