The Tri-State Fire Protection District, part of MABAS Division 10, has recently been added to the site. This local fire department serves a growing community and operates from four stations, equipped with two frontline medic units, four fire engines, one tower ladder, and a battalion chief. Their primary medic units are provided by Horton, while their firefighting apparatus includes a mix of Crimson, Pierce, and Smeal equipment. The district covers parts of Darien, Burr Ridge, Willowbrook, and unincorporated areas of DuPage County.
Tri-State has its own in-house dispatchers who operate out of Station 2, ensuring quick response times and efficient communication during emergencies. Station 3, located at 10S110 Madison Street in Burr Ridge, is one of their key facilities. A recent photo shows the station, captured by Larry Shapiro.
Another notable unit is Squad 526, a small Crimson squad based at Station 2. It features a rear pump and is used for specialized operations. The vehicle was photographed by Karl Klotz, highlighting its unique design and function.
The department also maintains a Smeal tower ladder, known as Tower Ladder 539, which plays a crucial role in high-rise and complex fire incidents. In addition, Engine 511, a standard fire engine, is regularly deployed for various emergency responses.
Engine 583, a Pierce Arrow model, was once a mainstay of the fleet but has since undergone an RPI (Rehabilitation and Preservation Initiative) and now serves as a reserve unit. A delivery photo of this engine, taken by Larry Shapiro, shows it in its original condition before the rehab process. It is expected to be retired soon.
These assets help Tri-State provide reliable and effective fire protection to the communities they serve.
