Bayer provides Bluestar with new chloralkali production technology

Bayer MaterialScience AG signed a cooperation agreement with Beijing Bluestar Group, the largest chlor-alkali electrolysis equipment manufacturer in China, on the 22nd to provide the latter with a new energy-saving chloralkali production technology. The experts said that this will significantly reduce the energy consumption of chlorine to alkali production. .
Lu Xiaobao, deputy general manager of Lanxing Group, said: “By electrolysis of sodium chloride and water, we can obtain two products, chlorine and alkali. Traditional methods consume huge amounts of electricity. If this new technology is integrated into chlor-alkali equipment, it can reduce the 30% of energy consumption. If this method can be extended to the whole country, it can reduce the national electricity consumption by 1%."
According to Dr. Van Auslitz, Head of Production and Technology at Bayer MaterialScience, China's chlorine production in 2008 was 21.2 million tons, which is about one-third of the world's total output. Therefore, the energy-saving and emission-reduction China's environmental impact is huge.
"This technology can help indirectly reduce CO2 emissions. We estimate that if this technology is promoted to the whole Chinese base-making industry, it can help China reduce emissions of carbon dioxide by 15 million tons per year," said Van Ostriel. .
Zhao Penggao, deputy division inspector of the Department of Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection of the National Development and Reform Commission, said: “The chlor-alkali industry has always been an industry that the NDRC is focusing on. The technical cooperation between Bayer and Bluestar is very conducive to energy-saving and emission reduction in this industry and it is in line with the low-carbon economy. We will give strong support to this trend."
Bai Yuping, general manager of Bluestar Group, pointed out that in the chlor-alkali production industry, energy costs account for nearly 50% of chlorine production costs and 66% of soda costs. New energy-saving technologies not only contribute to energy conservation and emission reduction, but also help companies save costs.
Koehnich, president of Bayer Greater China, believes that the Bayer Group has always focused on energy conservation, environmental protection and sustainable development in China, and this financial crisis has provided an opportunity for the development of a green economy. Bayer will continue to be committed to environmental protection in China in the future. Technological cooperation.
