Delfast Pushes Electric Bike Boundaries with Aircraft Experiment
On June 18th, Delfast conducted an ambitious experiment to test the power capabilities of their electric bike model, the Top 1.0. The aim was to see if this e-bike could pull a Yak-18T aircraft, weighing approximately 1.7 tons (3400 pounds), at Kyiv's Chaika Airfield.
While the trial didn't yield the desired results, it provided valuable insights and experience for the team. The Delfast TOP 1.0 is primarily designed for long-distance commuting and wasn't engineered for such strenuous tasks. Despite this, the team discovered that the bike's motor indeed had sufficient power to move the aircraft. However, due to the safety shutdown system, the bike failed to actually budge the aircraft.
As CEO Daniel Tonkopiy stated, "I'm satisfied with the outcome. We learned that the e-bike can pull the aircraft, even uphill. The downside is that it couldn't move the plane. The electronics shut down the engine at startup. Our next step is identifying and disabling this safety lock so we can return to Chaika Airfield and attempt this feat again, maybe even pushing for something larger like a Boeing."
This experiment has opened new doors for Delfast, inspiring them to explore innovative solutions for various industries. They hope to develop new models tailored to specific needs, including logistics and agriculture, where handling loads over 1 ton (2000 pounds) is common.
The aviation community showed great interest in the experiment, expressing excitement about the potential applications of such vehicles in professional settings.
For those who missed it, here's the full video of the event:
In summary, while the experiment didn't achieve its primary goal, it highlighted the immense potential of electric bikes when pushed beyond conventional limits. It also underscored the importance of customizing technology to meet specific industry demands, opening up exciting possibilities for future innovations.
