The color of fire trucks (part 9) Division 7

This latest entry (our ninth) in our ongoing series highlighting "The Color of Fire Trucks" comes to us once again from Bill Friedrich, who takes a closer look at MABAS Division 7. This division covers Kankakee County and parts of Iroquois County. One of the standout vehicles from Essex Fire Protection District was their Squad unit from 1974, a modified 1974 Dodge Power Wagon. This was the only white vehicle in their fleet at the time. Bill Friedrich’s archives preserve this piece of history. In Kankakee, the City Fire Department had two units based on CF Mack chassis that were painted white over lime green. One of these was Ladder 6, a 1983 Mack CF600 equipped with a 100-foot Pirsch aerial ladder, a 1,250-gallon per minute (GPM) pump, and a 200-gallon water tank. The other was a Mack-CF engine, both of which have since been removed from service. The Kankakee Township Fire Department used to have a lime-green color scheme for their equipment. A prime example is their 1975 IHC Cargostar 1910, fitted with an Alexis body, a 1,000 GPM pump, and a 500-gallon water tank. It served as Engine 84. Over time, however, the department transitioned to a predominantly red color palette. The Pembroke Fire Protection District also had some lime-green apparatus in its earlier days. Engine 139 from 1972, built on an IHC Loadstar 1800 chassis by Central, featured a 500 GPM pump and a 500-gallon water capacity. Like many departments, Pembroke eventually shifted to an all-red fleet. Otto Township Fire Protection District once embraced lime green for some of its vehicles. Their Engine 38 from 1986, an IHC S1900/Luverne combination, was equipped with a 750 GPM pump and held 500 gallons of water. As trends changed, Otto Township also adopted a red-dominated livery. The Papineau Fire Protection District stands out with its single yellow rig, Engine 1533. This 1981 Pierce Arrow features a 1,250 GPM pump and carries 750 gallons of water. Interestingly, it was previously part of the Glenside FPD in MABAS Division 12 before being acquired last year. Bourbonnais Fire Protection District had a mix of yellow and red apparatus. Engine 63 from 1976, constructed by Howe on a Hendrickson 1871 chassis, boasted an impressive 1,000 GPM pump and a 800-gallon water capacity. Other yellow units have since been phased out in favor of red. Grant Park Fire Protection District once included a lime-green engine in its lineup. Engine 112 from 1963, an IHC/Central combination, featured a 1,000 GPM pump and held 1,000 gallons of water. All other vehicles in the district have consistently been painted red. Chebanse Township Fire Protection District, located in Clifton, had two white vehicles early on, while the remainder of their fleet was red. This unique color choice set them apart during that era. Salina Township Fire Protection District still operates a white tanker, Tanker 164, which was built on a 1985 GMC F-7000 chassis by Midstate Tank and holds 2,000 gallons of water. Previously, they also had a white brush truck, but now everything else is red. St. Anne Fire Department’s Rescue 10, a 1967 Chevy Step Van, initially sported a blue color scheme. Later, it was repainted white and red. Throughout its tenure, St. Anne’s other vehicles have remained uniformly red. Each department's choice of colors tells a story about their identity and evolution over time. These snapshots provide insight into how firefighting equipment has adapted not just functionally, but aesthetically, reflecting broader changes within the industry.

    Aluminum Railing Accessories

The light weighting of building materials is a pursuit of designers, and aluminum alloy die-castings are widely used in the construction industry due to their light weight, high strength, and corrosion resistance. One important application of aluminum alloy die-castings is balcony railings. Die-castings include railing bases, railing end caps, railing corner connectors, and so on.
