In the flotation, molybdenite has two distinct characteristics based on its composition and structure.
(1) Good natural floatability: The good natural floatability of molybdenite makes its recovery easy. At the beginning of this century, all-oil flotation was used to separate molybdenum ore from the pulp; from 1918 to 1919, Claymax began to use fumed oil as a collector and a foaming agent to float molybdenum ore; 1937 Enrol used hydrocarbon oil as a collector for the first time in Claymax; to date, hydrocarbon oil non-polar collectors have been the most important collector for molybdenite. In 1942, Claymax added the octetix agent of the oil emulsifier for the first time to strengthen the rough selection of molybdenum ore. Regardless of how the agent changes, the molybdenum ore is well floated in the sulfide minerals, and the collector is the simplest.
(2) High rich ore ratio (or beneficiation ratio): Molybdenum ore contains very low phasor, and molybdenum concentrate has high quality requirements. In conventional beneficiation, molybdenite rich ore ratio is high (see table below).

In recent years, the grade of molybdenum concentrate has been continuously improved, and the rich ratio of molybdenum has exceeded 500. In contrast, molybdenum has the highest rich ratio. This is also limited to the main production of molybdenum ore, for the by-product molybdenum ore, the rich ratio is much higher than this.
