Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District (LRFPD) firefighters responded to a reported house fire this morning at 1975 Rose Terrace in Riverwoods. The call came from the homeowner, who reported flames emerging from the garage. Upon arrival, the incident was upgraded to a "Working Fire" as the situation escalated quickly. The first engine unit arrived at the large two-story residence and found the attached garage fully engulfed. Firefighters immediately initiated a transitional attack using a 2½-inch hose line.
Several assisting departments were on the scene, including Long Grove FPD, Deerfield-Bannockburn FPD, Countryside FPD, and Wheeling. After about 30 minutes of initial response, the alarm was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm due to the discovery of additional fire pockets spreading through the home. This triggered the arrival of mutual aid units from Lake Zurich, Mundelein, Gurnee, and Libertyville.
Firefighters worked efficiently to contain the blaze, and after several hours of intense effort, the fire was brought under control. Several of the mutual aid companies were able to return to their stations shortly after the fire was contained.
Here are some photos captured by Larry Shapiro, who arrived on the scene after the Box Alarm was issued. These images provide a glimpse into the intensity of the situation and the efforts of the responding crews.
