Big fire in Naperville

On Sunday evening, Naperville witnessed a significant 3-11 alarm fire that erupted at a popular downtown eatery, the Rosebud Restaurant, located at 48 W. Chicago Avenue. The blaze started in a grease duct inside the building and quickly spread through the concealed spaces within this historic structure. As reported by The Daily Herald, you can read more about the incident [here](#). The fire's progression was particularly challenging due to its movement into the voids of the older architecture, requiring extensive efforts from the Naperville Fire Department. From the onset, all ten fire stations in Naperville were activated, and additional resources were summoned from neighboring towns to support the operation. Truck 1, one of the department's newly acquired Spartan/Crimson 103' quint trucks, was initially stationed in front of the building but was later relocated further down the street. This strategic move allowed for better access and maneuverability as firefighters tackled the growing inferno. Photographer Larry Shapiro captured vivid images of Truck 1 in action, highlighting the coordinated efforts of the emergency teams. The fire presented numerous challenges, with thick smoke obscuring visibility and complicating efforts to pinpoint the exact locations of the flames. The unique construction of the building, including a tongue-and-groove ceiling, added layers of difficulty in identifying extensions of the fire. Despite these obstacles, both of Naperville’s tower ladders were deployed, and critical resources such as Squad 1, Engine 2, and two backup engines were actively engaged at the scene. Mutual aid was instrumental in managing the crisis, with support arriving from Bolingbrook, Downers Grove, Plainfield, Lisle-Woodridge, Darien Woodridge, Wheaton, Warrenville, Aurora, Glen Ellyn, Tristate, Lockport, North Aurora, and Westmont. These reinforcements ensured that every aspect of the firefighting operation received attention, from extinguishing visible flames to searching for any hidden embers. As the situation unfolded, images from the现场 revealed the intense nature of the firefighting effort. Smoke billowed high above the Rosebud restaurant, enveloping firefighters as they climbed Tower 5 to address the fire near the parapet. These photos, also taken by Larry Shapiro, capture the relentless dedication of the crews who worked tirelessly to contain the blaze. The collective efforts of the Naperville Fire Department and their mutual aid partners highlight the importance of teamwork and preparedness when facing emergencies of this magnitude.
