Transit leads the new era of light passenger fuel consumption is only 8L 100 kilometers

    At the start of this year, Jiangling Motors introduced a new generation of the Ford Transit, creating a significant buzz in the light commercial vehicle market. This marks the first brand-new model to be launched in the segment this year, ending the long-standing trend of "upgrading without replacing" in the light passenger car market. What exactly is this new model, and what impact is it having on the industry? Recently, this newspaper spoke with Qiao Xulin, the marketing manager at Zhejiang Kangshun, who shared his insights. The New Era of Light Passenger Vehicles Begins One of the most notable features of the new Ford Transit is its impressive fuel efficiency—only 8 liters per 100 kilometers. It also meets the Euro IV emission standard, making it one of the most eco-friendly options in its class. According to Qiao Xulin, the new model has exceeded expectations in terms of performance and economy, with sales quickly surpassing 100 units in just a short time. The key to its success lies in its enhanced fuel efficiency compared to previous models. How does the new model achieve such low fuel consumption? According to Zhejiang Kangshun’s real-world testing, urban driving consumes only 8 liters per 100 km. With a 2.4L engine and a spacious 15-seater layout, this level of efficiency seems almost surprising. The secret behind this achievement lies in the advanced technologies integrated into the new Ford Transit. Equipped with Ford’s original electric variable-section turbocharged 2.4L DURATORQ TDCI high-pressure common-rail diesel engine, the new model delivers a maximum power of 103 kW and a peak torque of 370 Nm. It meets the Euro III or Euro IV emission standards, offering both strong performance and environmental benefits. Paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, the vehicle provides smoother shifting, better comfort, and improved fuel economy. Driving the Trend of Four Modernizations As a new-generation Ford Transit, this model continues Ford’s legacy of practical and innovative design, aligning with global trends such as car modernization, safety, dieselization, and environmental protection. In terms of power, space, comfort, handling, and load capacity, the new model represents a significant leap forward. The body design features a load-bearing structure with a MacPherson front suspension and a variable-section leaf spring rear suspension—both of which are rare in this class in China. This setup enhances ride comfort and brings high-end features like ESP and Bosch ABS 8.0 systems to the light commercial vehicle segment, improving handling to sedan-like levels. In terms of equipment, the new model comes with high-end features such as driver-side airbags, ABS 8.0, and standard seat belts. It even offers an optional passenger airbag, a first for light passenger vehicles. Additionally, it includes a CAN-BUS intelligent network system developed domestically, typically found in cars priced over 250,000 yuan. Industry experts believe that the launch of the new Ford Transit marks the official integration of China's light commercial vehicle industry with the "four modernizations" trend. As a result, the model has gained popularity among various sectors, including banks, telecom companies, and private enterprises, mainly used for employee transportation and business purposes. A Driving Experience Comparable to Luxury Cars Many owners have praised the driving experience of the new Ford Transit, noting that it doesn’t fall short of high-end luxury vehicles. Starting the engine, the DURATORQ TDCI diesel engine proves its reputation, overcoming the traditional perception of diesel engines being noisy, slow, and polluting. At idle, the engine runs smoothly with minimal vibration and noise. When accelerating, the six-speed GFT transmission ensures smooth gear shifts, allowing for quick and easy transitions. The low-speed, high-torque design makes the vehicle feel powerful yet controlled. At 100 km/h, the cabin noise is around 82 dB, and even at 150 km/h, the vehicle remains stable and comfortable. At high speeds, the steering system remains precise, and there is no shaking or instability. The chassis provides excellent grip, and passengers don’t feel like they’re “flying.” The hydraulic shock absorber system ensures a quiet and smooth ride, even at top speeds. In terms of noise reduction, the interior at 50 km/h is only 60.8 dB, slightly higher than a Mercedes-Benz gasoline engine (57.6 dB), but still comparable to premium cars. Wind noise is barely noticeable above 100 km/h, and the vehicle handles well despite its size. Overall, the new Ford Transit not only sets a new benchmark in the light commercial vehicle market but also offers an exceptional driving experience that rivals luxury cars. It’s clear that this model is shaping the future of the industry.
